Cinematic works exploring memory, identity, and emotional world-building through film and sound.
The Women in Between is a short film and portrait series project by Boxx The Artist that honors the lives, becoming, and everyday contributions of local grassroots trailblazers. Underscored by the experiences of dark-skinned Black women, the project celebrates the often-unseen individuals whose impact, whether quiet or widely recognized, shapes the communities around them.
Through expressionistic portraiture and personal narrative, the film affirms that every act of care, leadership, resilience, and creation matters. It is the women in between, the ones rarely centered or celebrated, who so often become the fabric that holds us together. In recognizing them, we are reminded that there is wisdom in the everyday lives of our neighbors. If we choose to truly see one another, their stories can deepen our own understanding of community, humanity, and ourselves. Explore the full project at The Women in Between website.
